Are Tulips and Daffodils Safe for Cats?

Every year when spring comes around and buds are blooming, it’s almost impossible not to bring spring home and buy fresh flowers for your house. But as a cat parent, it’s super important to know which flowers are safe for your cat. And with daffodils and tulips being so popular in the springtime, we want to find out if they are safe for cats.

Unfortunately, some of our most loved stems really can do some damage to our four-pawed pals. Daffodils and tulips are both dangerous for cats. Some flowers can even be fatal if consumed. As pretty as they might look in your favourite vase, it’s best to avoid the spring favourites if you’re a cat owner. Of course, some outdoor cats roam free and it’s impossible to know exactly what they get up to. But if you do spot any tulips or daffodils close to your cat’s favourite spots, try and keep your kitty cat away where possible.

Cat-safe options:

Flowers aren’t totally out of the question of course. Roses are beautiful and most importantly cat-safe, along with snapdragons, stocks, lisianthus, gerberas and sunflowers to name a few. There are plenty of cat-friendly options to keep your home colourful and blooming through the spring. Always double-check what you’re bringing home with the florist!
