Holidays<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Holidays<\/strong> &#8211; With the autumn comes many a holiday, Halloween and bonfire night being the big hitters. And though they\u2019re fun for humans, it\u2019s much safer to keep your cat indoors on these evenings, away from spooks and sudden scary fireworks. Halloween also means an increase in sweets and chocolate out and about. These foods can be toxic to cats so better to be on the safe side and keep your feline at home, away from the ghoulies. Creating a safe, cosy space away from the noise of fireworks will also help to keep your cat feeling calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Antifreeze<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Antifreeze<\/strong> &#8211; When temperatures drop, car drivers will look to antifreeze for a quick fix to defrosting their windscreens. The chemicals in these products are highly toxic to cats and sadly can be fatal. Avoid using antifreeze where possible, but if necessary make sure it\u2019s safely stored away from prying paws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Car checks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Car checks<\/strong> &#8211; it isn\u2019t uncommon for cats to cram themselves into small, cosy spaces. And during autumn and winter, the clever cats have grown to understand the warmth of a toasty bonnet. Always try to check your car for any secret sleepers before you start that engine and set off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Weight Watchers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Weight Watchers <\/strong>&#8211; it\u2019s natural for cats to become less active during the autumn, snoozing their way through the colder seasons. However, less activity can mean an increased risk of weight gain. Keeping your cat on a tailored diet specific to their size and needs (\ud83d\udc40\ud83d\udc40<a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicofcats.com\/\"><strong>Republic of Cats<\/strong><\/a>) will help with this, as well as making sure your cat is entertained indoors. Plenty of playing and stimulation should help to keep them busy and trim this autumn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Fleas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fleas<\/strong> &#8211; it\u2019s not just the cats that want to stay indoors during the colder month, fleas will also be trying to make their way inside, especially when the heating goes on! Fleas move fast, and before you know it you\u2019ll be dealing with an infestation so it\u2019s essential to make sure your cat is protected against fleas. Treat your cat monthly to keep fleas at bay, and not just in the autumn! Regular treatment all year round is the only way to ensure you won\u2019t have any unwanted flea sized visitors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Fire safety<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fire safety<\/strong> &#8211; it\u2019s only natural to light those pumpkin spice candles and get the log burner roasting once autumn creeps in. But being fire-safe in your home is so important for both you and your cats. Never leave your cat unattended near an open flame, and be sure to keep those candles out of reach of all four paws.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are just a couple of tips to ensure your cat is safe and healthy through the autumn months.
