How many times have you spent silly money on a new cat bed only to be snubbed in favour of a plain old cardboard box?! But what is it that really drives this obsession and why do cats like boxes so much?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reasons cats love boxes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Safety <\/strong>&#8211; cats love small and secure spaces, and a box brings that feeling of being enclosed and confined, giving them the ability to hide and stalk their \u2018prey\u2019 as well as feeling snuggly and safe. The <em>ultimate <\/em>den, pouncing into their box if they\u2019re feeling a little panicked is the perfect option for a little zen time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Curiosity<\/strong> &#8211; Cats love to explore their surroundings and a new box naturally <em>must<\/em> be investigated. The overwhelming need to claim this new space as their own before anyone else can is only natural, so as well as jumping straight in, often cats will be caught rubbing their little fuzzy chins on your latest Amazon delivery.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Comfort <\/strong>&#8211; Boxes make for the perfect bed; cardboard keeps the warm in and provides yet another place to nap. Because let\u2019s face it, the human\u2019s bed, the clean laundry pile <em>and <\/em>the armchair just simply aren\u2019t enough options. Cats can be asleep for up to 18 hours a day, so a box is just another cosy spot to curl up and snooze.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Claws <\/strong>&#8211; Cat\u2019s claws have got to be sharpened, and boxes provide the perfect texture to scritch and scratch as well as gnaw and shred, should your moggy desire. A much better option than the sofa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boxes cannot be beaten in the eyes of our cats. They\u2019re fun, safe, warm and provide endless entertainment for our housemates. So stop spending all of your pennies on six-tier scratching posts and laser pens, and instead just upcycle those cardboard boxes for your cats\u2019 entertainment.
